Your TV is no exception, with companies such as Samsung and Sony offering models with an LED backlight. Philips wants in on the diode action, so its Cineos PFL9803 Ambilight range features an LCD panel backlit by white LEDs, rather than the traditional cold cathode florescent lamps.

Pioneer Kuro KRL-32V review

We're not going to pretend this TV is cheap. It is, however, an impressive LCD TV with solid Freeview picture quality and amazing HD pictures. Even upscaled DVDs look good on this TV. It's one for you if you have your heart set on a Pioneer, but can't have a 50 or 60-inch plasma

Sony Bravia KDL-40E4000 review

Sony is clearly attempting to appeal to people with a broader aesthetic with its 40E4000 LCD TV, as its design is anything but the usual slab a black plastic that most people have in their living rooms. With good speaker quality and very watchable DVD upscaling, this TV has much to offer beyond its unique style
